Public Health Practitioner (Advanced) - Healthy Places

Location: Aylesbury

Overview

Are you passionate about creating healthier places and reducing health inequalities?

We're looking for an experienced and enthusiastic Public Health Practitioner (Advanced) to join our Public Health Team and help drive forward some of Buckinghamshire's key public health priorities.

This is an exciting opportunity to lead and support work that improves the places where people live, work and connect, ensuring health and wellbeing are embedded across local policy, planning and service delivery. A significant focus of the role will be coordinating delivery of the Director of Public Health Annual Report Action Plan, working collaboratively with partners across the system to translate recommendations into meaningful action.

If you are motivated by partnership working, influencing change and making a difference to local communities, we'd love to hear from you.

About us

Buckinghamshire Council is a relatively new organisation that combines the strengths and expertise of the previous five councils in the county to create positive change for local people, communities, and businesses. We are firmly focused on the future and have made a clear commitment to serve residents better and to provide stronger representation for Buckinghamshire, both locally and nationally.

About the role

This newly established role will play a key part in delivering the Council's Healthy Places agenda and supporting implementation of the Director of Public Health Annual Report recommendations.

The Director of Public Health's most recent report highlighted the importance of the seven building blocks of health and the need for coordinated action across organisations and sectors. You will help ensure that momentum is maintained, bringing together partners, monitoring progress and identifying opportunities to strengthen delivery.

You will also provide public health expertise to a range of place-based initiatives, helping to embed health considerations into decision-making, planning processes and service design. Working with colleagues across the Council and partner organisations, you will support approaches that improve health outcomes, tackle inequalities and create healthier environments for Buckinghamshire residents.

Any-Desk:

As an ‘any-desk’ worker, you’ll need to be connected to our network to access digital folders and resources, but this can either be from home or an office location when required. You will be required to work from the office a couple of times a week, depending on your role and team requirements.

About you

We are looking for someone who is passionate about improving population health and creating healthier communities.

You will be an effective communicator and relationship-builder, able to work confidently with a range of stakeholders and partners. You will have experience of delivering projects or programmes, coordinating activity across organisations and applying evidence to support decision-making.

You will also have:
  • Knowledge and understanding of public health principles, prevention and health inequalities.
  • Experience of partnership working within local government, the NHS, public health or a related field.
  • Strong project management and organisational skills.
  • The ability to analyse and interpret information and use evidence to inform action.
  • Excellent communication, presentation and report-writing skills.
  • Experience of managing competing priorities and delivering outcomes in a complex environment.
  • A proactive, collaborative and solution-focused approach.

Most importantly, you will share our commitment to improving outcomes for residents and be motivated by the opportunity to influence change at both strategic and operational levels.

We understand that candidates may use AI tools to assist with their applications. While we welcome innovation, we expect all submissions to reflect your own experience, skills, and achievements accurately.
