Business Intelligence Analyst (Permanent)

Overview

Buckinghamshire Council’s Business Intelligence (BI) team are recruiting a new Business Intelligence Analyst on a permanent basis.

As a BI Analyst, you will be part of the Adults and Health BI team, primarily delivering analysis and insight for the Community Safety Partnership in Buckinghamshire. You will work closely with partners including police, health, and fire service.

You will have the opportunity to work with experienced data professionals to help extract, analyse, and interpret data to support business decisions. You will be responsible for gathering and organising data from various sources, performing data analysis, and presenting your findings clearly and concisely.

You will support the delivery of corporate performance reporting, including quality assurance, process improvement, and efficient data capture. You will also develop good working relationships and communicate effectively with internal customers, collaborators, external bodies, organisations, partners, and stakeholders.

About us

The Business Intelligence team are a highly collaborative and supportive function, providing excellent opportunities to develop your skills across various analytical disciplines and customer service areas. You will be primarily assigned to support the Adults & Health Directorate and this role will primarily deliver analysis and insight for the Community Safety Partnership in Buckinghamshire. However, you will also have opportunities to be involved in cross-cutting projects with other Directorates.

About the role

You will support the development of high quality, specialist, business intelligence and insight from internal, external, and partner sources. You will support evidence-based decision making and forward planning, which will drive continuous and sustained improvements in service delivery, value for money and customer satisfaction.

You will research, process, and evaluate information and data to support business requirements. Trends, issues, and options will need to be identified and prioritised, and used as a basis for conclusions and recommendations which will support decision making.

You will work closely with stakeholders to clarify changing business requirements and identify improvement opportunities. You will develop good working relationships and

communicate effectively with internal customers and collaborators, external bodies, organisations, partners, and stakeholders.

As part of your role, you will contribute to the development of others. This could be through sharing technical and procedural knowledge, skills, and experience, acting as a coach or mentor, or providing feedback.

The role will require excellent ICT skills, including strong technical skills across the Microsoft ecosystem (intermediate Excel, Power BI), robust SQL skills and knowledge, and the ability to pick up specialist systems quickly. You will also be technically minded and willing to learn new tools, techniques, and processes.

The team operates a hybrid approach where you come into the office at least 2 days per week. Your office will be Walton Street, Aylesbury and we operate an ‘any desk’ policy where you can choose where you sit to enable teams and their customers to sit together for better collaboration. If greater flexibility is required based on your individual circumstances, please discuss with your manager.

Please note Thames Valley Police vetting is likely to be required to access police data which is required for the role.

Any-Desk:

As an ‘any-desk’ worker, you’ll need to be connected to our network to access digital folders and resources, but this can either be from home or an office location when required. You will be required to work from the office a couple of times a week, depending on your role and team requirements.

About you

You will have:

  • Experience in data management and data analysis, knowledge of data and performance systems and confidence in working with and drawing conclusions from data.
  • An understanding of police or community safety data.
  • Well-developed interpersonal, persuasion and negotiation skills to build relationships and influence the stakeholder community.
  • Excellent written and verbal communication skills.
  • Possess strong technical skills across the Microsoft ecosystem, including intermediate Excel data modelling.
  • Proven capability to engineer end-to-end Power BI solutions, from data ingestion and modelling to produce high-impact visual dashboards.
  • Demonstrate robust SQL skills with a proven ability to learn specialist systems quickly.
  • Proven ability to cope with conflicting and changing demands through good time management and the ability to work under pressure.
  • Authoritative knowledge of relevant systems, policies, regulations professional guidelines, legislation, and an understanding of emerging developments within the service and specialist areas.
  • Proven initiative and judgement to research, identify and resolve problems. Highly numerate and accurate, with attention to detail.
  • Experience of working in or with the Public Sector.
