School Finance and Operations Officer - Roundwood Primary School

Overview

We are seeking a highly organised, proactive and trustworthy Finance Officer to join our dedicated team at Roundwood Primary School. This is a pivotal role supporting the Headteacher, Senior Leadership Team and Governors through effective financial management, payroll oversight, HR administration, safeguarding compliance and strategic budget planning. Working within our supportive school family, you will play a central role in ensuring the smooth operational and financial running of our school.

Salary: Based on experience Pro Rata Pay Range 3 £29,114 – 31, 230

Contract type: Permanent

Required: to start from Tuesday 1st September 2026

Hours: 21 hrs a week – 3 days – to be decided with successful applicant, 8:45 – 3:45pm 39 weeks p.a. (term-time including inset days)

About the role

This varied and rewarding role combines financial management with wider operational responsibilities.

Key duties include:

  • Managing budget monitoring, reconciliation, forecasting and year-end procedures
  • Supporting Headteacher and Governors with budget planning and reporting
  • Managing payroll, salary modelling and staffing cost analysis
  • Processing invoices, accounts payable/receivable and grant funding
  • Leading HR administration including contracts, recruitment checks and payroll liaison
  • Supporting safeguarding compliance through Staff Poms, Single Central Record and safer recruitment
  • Supporting census returns, insurance, traded services and GDPR compliance

About you

The successful candidate will ideally:

  • Have experience in school finance, budgeting or business administration
  • Be confident using financial systems (FMS), Excel and SIMS (or equivalent)
  • Understand payroll, HR processes and budget monitoring
  • Demonstrate excellent organisational and communication skills
  • Be able to maintain confidentiality and professionalism at all times
  • Have knowledge of safeguarding, GDPR and compliance processes (training can be provided)
  • Be able to work independently while contributing positively to a team
  • Have strong attention to detail and the ability to meet deadlines

Experience in school-based finance, HR or business support is highly desirable.
