About us

Buckinghamshire Council is a relatively new organisation that combines the strengths and expertise of the previous five councils in the county to create positive change for local people, communities, and businesses. We are firmly focused on the future and have made a clear commitment to serve residents better and to provide stronger representation for Buckinghamshire, both locally and nationally.

We have day centres in Burnham, Aylesbury, Chesham, Beaconsfield, and Buckingham. Each centre offers different services, some are more specialised but all of them focus on helping people and their families.

About the role

As a Social Care Assistant in our day centre, you’ll help adults with learning disabilities and older people with everyday tasks and activities. This includes personal care, helping with meals, supporting them in learning life skills like cooking or cleaning, and joining in fun activities like arts and crafts, music, and drama.

Every day will be different as you meet and support people with a variety of needs. Some of your tasks will include:

  • Helping people with personal care such as getting dressed, using the toilet, washing, and keeping their space clean.
  • Giving advice and information to help people find the care and support they need.
  • Making sure care plans are followed and helping people stay independent for as long as possible.
  • Reporting any concerns about someone’s safety to your manager and following safeguarding procedures.
  • Working closely with families, carers, other professionals, and local services to give the best support possible.

About you

You’ll need to be a friendly and caring person who enjoys working with others. You’ll be expected to follow care plans and use your own judgement to solve problems, with support from your manager when needed.

You may take on a specialist role that needs extra training, such as working with people with autism.

On occasion you may be required to work at our other day centres, so being flexible and able to travel is important.
