This particular Science Technician role presents an excellent opportunity. It's ideal for someone looking to return to work on a restricted hours basis or simply seeking a rewarding part-time position. You'll be joining our dedicated science department, working closely within the Chemistry team, and alongside two experienced Senior Chemistry Technicians who operate on a job-share basis, providing you with support.

About the role

As Technician (in consultation with the Subject Leader) will:

manage the practical needs of the Junior Chemistry department;
manage Junior Chemistry department equipment;
manage the Junior Chemistry booking system for equipment;
provide appropriate Junior Chemistry equipment for practicals;
set up equipment for Junior Chemistry practicals as requested;
assist teachers with Junior Chemistry practicals as requested;
keep Junior Chemistry equipment to the required standard, including repairs/replacements;
keep lab G3 in a state appropriate for teaching;
maintain an accurate inventory of equipment in Junior Chemistry;
keep abreast of current best practice and Health & Safety issues as guided by the Senior Chemistry technicians; and
liaise with and support Senior Chemistry technicians which includes opportunities to work in other year groups.

About you

While a science or chemistry background, such as an A-Level in Chemistry, would be helpful, it's not essential. What's most important is that you are organised, efficient, and able to follow written methods. If you possess these qualities, you'll find this role accessible and immensely rewarding, allowing you to contribute directly to the exciting world of practical science education at RGS. This position offers a fantastic entry point into technician work, enabling you to play a vital part in inspiring the next generation of scientists.
