Overview

Little Kingshill Combined School are looking to recruit an energetic, friendly and enthusiastic Nursery Assistant to join our Early Years team working with 3 and 4 year olds. This is an important role that helps develop good communication skills, encourage independence and nurture good relationships within a safe and stimulating environment.

The hours are Monday to Friday 8.30am to 3pm.

Salary is Bucks pay scale 6 -8 £23,996 to £24,473 pro rata (depending on experience).

About the role

Main Duties and Responsibilities:
• To work as part of the staff team in planning, running and supervising a wide variety of stimulating activities as part of the Early Years Statutory Framework while complying with health and safety requirements and ensuring the implementation of the school’s equal opportunities policy at all times.
• To encourage and nurture independence of daily routines such as feeding and dressing.
• To provide stability and support through transitional periods.
• To ensure the children’s health and wellbeing at all times.
• Provide first aid when necessary, and keep written records of any incidents or accidents which parents should be informed of.
• To maintain communication with parents and carers.
• To assist liaison with school staff.
• To monitor the condition of the premises and equipment, and ensure the premises are used in consideration for other users.
• To consult with children and parents on a regular basis.
• To implement the school’s behaviour for learning policy and all other policies and procedures.
• To undertake relevant training as deemed necessary.

General
• To have in mind the school’s aim ‘A school for all, with community at its heart.’
• To take due account of the school’s health and safety policy and duty of care when working in the nursery and with pupils.
• To maintain confidentiality with regards pupil information.
• To undertake other duties as the Headteacher may reasonably direct.

About you

QUALIFICATIONS

ESSENTIAL
• NVQ Level 2 minimum
• Good basic education to at least GCSE level, with A-C pass in both maths and English
• Computer literate

DESIRABLE
• A relevant qualification in childcare and /or education
• Qualification in First Aid
• Additional qualifications that would support learning
• Additional qualifications or experience in SEN would be an advantage

PROFESSIONAL KNOWLEDGE AND EXPERIENCE

ESSENTIAL
• Experience of working with children
• Knowledge of Early Years Statutory Framework an advantage.
• Understanding of child protection procedures and safeguarding children
• Knowledge and understanding of the needs of young children and how these vary between individuals
• Understanding of the roles various adults play in a child’s education
• Commitment to high standards, continuous improvement and quality assurance
• Commitment to inclusion
• Good literacy and numeracy skills
• Commitment to training

DESIRABLE
• Knowledge of Special Needs and Speech and Language
• Experience of undertaking 1:1 support and/or targeted intervention work
• Experience of supporting a child/ren with learning needs
• Experience of working with children with behavioural difficulties
• Understanding of positive behaviour management strategies
• Experience of leading play-based activities with groups of children
• Experience of Supporting pupils with Autistic Spectrum Disorder
