Our new Head of Engagement and Inclusion will play a key role in the future development of the social and emotional needs of all our students whilst helping a smaller group of students to engage in academic learning. We believe that through personalised learning and an individual curriculum tailored to meet the academic and emotional needs of our students, we can help all students achieve their full potential.

This is a fabulous opportunity to work in an outstanding Special School with pupils who have a diagnosis of ASC, SLCN, MLD and Complex Needs.

The successful candidate will take responsibility for leading and further-developing a Personalised Curriculum provision, which is currently very well established within the school. This provision provides exciting and inspiring opportunities for those who find accessing group learning challenging. We would like to widen the opportunities offered within school and develop wider links with other suitable external providers and work on developing the curriculum of the entire school by using strategies used in Personalised Curriculum.

Stony Dean is a popular, over subscribed maintained special school based in Amersham, Buckinghamshire. We are very proud of the fact that we were the first school in the County to gain specialist SEN College status for Communication and Interaction. We currently have 214 students aged 11-18 years who all have an Educational Health and Care Plan. Students have a profile of Moderate Learning Difficulties, Speech, Language & Communication Needs, ASD and additional complexities. We are a highly successful school that has been rated Outstanding since 2014.

About the role

As the Lead for Engagement & Inclusion, you will provide professional leadership and management of all aspects of developing a Personalised Curriculum in order to secure improved engagement and progress of all pupils that fall within this area. Your role will involve providing some individual and small group teaching / tutoring, whilst helping students to develop emotional resilience and self-confidence. The alternative curriculum is provided on an individual basis to encourage pupils to build on their skills and develop as sociable, employable young people with a positive vision for their future.

As an SEN Teacher you will be an outstanding classroom practitioner who consistently demonstrates the highest standards of delivery, is fully committed to raising engagement across the school and acutely aware of the strategies required to achieve the highest standards within their subject area.

The successful candidate will be a confident individual with excellent communication skills and a great sense of humour. Resilience is also essential!

The successful candidate will have a range of key competencies and skills for the role:

1) Highly skilled, friendly professional with a good sense of humour and sensitivity
2) Excellent classroom practitioner with a range of skills, knowledge and understanding of supporting students with Special Educational Needs
3) Is an excellent communicator, a highly organised professional with excellent interpersonal skills enabling effective collaborative working with other colleagues and professionals
4) To be able to draw upon a range of behaviour management techniques to support individual learners
5) Have vision and enthusiasm and the ability to work effectively within a team as a leader

Applications from primary and secondary mainstream teachers as well as experienced SEN teachers who are eager to extend their SEN experience are welcome. You will be supported by a comprehensive induction and training program and will work closely alongside and be line managed by the Deputy Headteacher.
